Mining projects have underpinned Papua New Guinea’s economy for decades, resulting in considerable social and economic benefits to the Government and people of PNG. Our country has an impressive record of successful exploration that has produced world-class mines and importantly, several potential major mineral developments for the future.
The PNG economy received a tremendous boost with commencement of construction in 2010 of the US$15 billion PNG LNG Project and the start of liquefied natural gas exports in May 2014.
Papua New Guinea has a well-established mining industry, attracting investment from many of the world’s leading mining companies. Minerals currently being mined include gold, silver, copper, nickel, and cobalt.
